Duane (Dewey) Stanley Hyland, 69, died Feb. 18, 2020, at Madison Regional Hospital surrounded by his loved ones after a brave, nine-year battle with multiple myeloma. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Grace Lutheran Church at Nunda. Burial will follow at Prairie Queen Cemetery rural Nunda. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the Ellsworth Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7.
Duane was born to Stanley Duane and Eunice (Alverson) Hyland on Oct. 17, 1950, in Madison. As a child, he attended the Hyland Country School near Nunda. In second grade, he went to Rutland School, in Rutland, graduating in 1969. Following high school graduation, he worked part time for Bob Klassy Electric until attending Denver Automotive Institute in Denver, Colorado for auto body. From there, he came back to Nunda, to work on the family farm.
