Ducks run over Jackrabbits, 95-56

EUGENE, Ore. – For the third time in the last year, the South Dakota State women’s basketball team played the Oregon Ducks and for the third time in the last year Oregon came out on top.

The No. 3 Ducks topped the Jackrabbits 95-56 in a game that wasn’t close from the beginning. SDSU lost to Oregon 87-79 on Dec. 12th, 2018 in Brookings and then lost 63-53 to the ducks in the Sweet 16 on March 29th.
Oregon (7-1) jumped out to a 13-3 lead and did not look back. The Ducks led 23-9 after the first qyuarter and 55-24 at halftime. They led by as many as 38 points in the third quarter (71-33) and were in complete control the rest of the way.

SDSU (6-4) was led by Tylee Irwin who had 10 points, three assists and two steals. Rylie Cascio Jensen and Paiton Burkhard each had eight points. Lindsey Theuninck had nine points and a team-high four assists. The Jacks shot 37.3% from the field and 33.3% from three.

The Ducks were led once again by All-American Sabrin Ionescu. She is averaging 13.6 points, eight rebounds and 8.6 asssists on the season, and Sunday afternoon she had 12 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. Ioenescu now has 55 points, 31 assists and 22 rebounds in three career games against the Jackrabbits.

Ruthy Hebard led Oregon in scoring with 22 points. She also grabbed five rebounds. Satou Sabally had 16 points and eight rebounds. Holly Winterburn had 17 points and Erin Boley had 12.

This was SDSU’s second game against ranked opponent this season. They defeated No. 21 South Florida 61-50 on Nov. 28th in Cancun. Up next, the Jacks will return home to face Chattanoga on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
