VOLGA – A dumpster fire threatened trees in Volga on Thursday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire was reported at 8:32 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Samara Avenue in Volga, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“Prior to the fire, (a) witness at the Volga swimming pool heard several popping noises like fireworks. When the deputy arrived on scene, the dumpster was fully engulfed in flames (which) were reaching the trees above the fire,” Sebring said.
“The Volga Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire,” he said.
