Eighth Street, 11th Avenue water main replacement to begin

Posted

BROOKINGS – The contractor has begun some light work preparing the road surface for construction activities for the planned Eighth Street and 11th Avenue water main replacement project.

Beginning Monday, June 1, Eighth Street between Medary Avenue and Campanile Avenue will be closed to through traffic.

This project will be separated into multiple phases, with several phases of the project being completed overnight, from the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The scope includes removing the existing asphalt and concrete and replacing the water mains at the intersections of Medary Avenue and Eighth Street and Campanile Avenue and Eighth Street.

Once the water main work is complete, gravel will be placed at the intersections so that the roads can be open.

One phase includes replacement of the water main on the south side of 8th Street between Medary Avenue and Campanile Avenue. The water main will also be replaced on the south side of Eighth Street between Campanile Avenue and 14th Avenue. The road will be resurfaced after the water main work is completed.

Once the water main is complete on Eighth Street, the road on 11th Avenue, between Seventh Street and Eighth Street, will be closed and the water main will be replaced on 11th Avenue.

The west side of the road will be resurfaced after the water main work is completed.

Due to the nature of the project, there will be brief periods of time where the water will be turned off so that new connections can be established.

“BMU appreciates the community’s cooperation and understanding during the construction season, and we do apologize for any inconveniences,” BMU said in a prepared statement.

Residents in the area are being encouraged to email Evan Henningsen at ehenningsen@swiftel-bmu.com to be added to project updates and communication emails. For more information about this project, contact Henningsen at 697-8438.
