Elaine F. Jensen, 93, of Brookings, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at Brookings Christian Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elaine Fae Norris was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Brookings County, the daughter of Erza and Margaret (York) Norris. Elaine received her education in rural school in Brookings County and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1944. She continued her education at Madison Eastern Normal where she received her Teacher’s Certificate. She taught school in Spencer, SD for one year. She was united in marriage to Russell L. Jensen on June 6, 1948 in Brookings. After their marriage they farmed in Brookings County until 1970, and moved into Brookings in 1975. In 1976, she was employed at the Ben Franklin Store for six years, Brost’s Fabric Shop for six years, and from 1982 until 1996 at First National Bank in Brookings.
Elaine was a member of Brookings Christian Church, Ladies Missionary Circle, the American Legion Auxillary and the Women’s Bowling Association. She was very active in the church, leader and coached softball. She especially enjoyed gardening and bowling. Elaine cherished her time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Janice Jensen of Aberdeen,, Judith Baldridge of Sioux Falls,, Gary (Bonnie) Jensen of Great Falls, MT, Steven (Kathy) Jensen of West Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Alvin (Doris) Norris, of Lunanburg, MA and one brother-in-law, Curt (Kris) Jensen, of Brookings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; her twin sister, Arlene Nelson and two brothers, Vernon and Roger.
