ELB falls to DRSM

DELL RAPIDS – Dell Rapids St. Mary used a 19-9 first quarter to open a lead the Cardinals would not relinquish in defeating Elkton-Lake Benton 64-57 in a girls’ basketball game on Tuesday night in Dell Rapids.

Madala Hanson led the Cardinals with 18 points and five rebounds, while Sydney Klein scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Courtney Brown also had 10 points and seven rebounds for St. Mary.

Elkton-Lake Benton’s Tevan Erickson was one of three Lady Elks in double-figures as she led ELB with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Kylie Ramlo had 11 points and six rebounds, and Rachael Krog had 10 points and three steals.

Emily Robbins added 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.

Elkton-Lake Benton shot 46 percent from the field, 23-of-49, but only attempted three shots from behind the three-point arc, making one.

St. Mary shot 42 percent (20-of-36), but just 4-of-21 from deep.

The Cardinals attempted one more free throw than the Lady Elks, 17 to 16, but made four more attempts.

Elkton-Lake Benton outrebounded Dell Rapids St. Mary 38-30 but committed 24 turnovers to the Cardinals’ 15.
