ELKTON – Elkton-Lake Benton pulled away in the second half to beat Ethan 50-39 in a Region 4B boys’ basketball quarterfinal Tuesday night.
The Elks led 12-10 after a quarter and 20-19 at halftime. They extended the advantage to 34-29 at the end of three and then outscored the Rustlers 16-10 over the final 8 minutes.
ELB used a balanced attack offensively.
Matthew Nibbe and Miles Harming both totaled 14 points and Marcus Harming added 13.
Nibbe also grabbed eight rebounds and came up with a pair of steals.
Marcus Harming dished out six assists and added a pair of steals.
The Elks turned the ball over just three times and shot 41.3% (19-of-46) from the field.
For Ethan (15-6), Eric Gustafson scored 12 points.
Elkton-Lake Benton (17-4) – the No. 4 seed in the region – faces No. 1 Howard (18-3) in the semifinals Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
