Elkton-Lake Benton boys, Deubrook Area girls post victories

ELKTON – Elkton-Lake Benton beat Great Plains Lutheran 72-45 in a nonconference boys’ basketball game Monday night.

Matthew Nibbe posted a double-double with game-high totals of 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Elks led 16-8 after a quarter and 38-22 at halftime. The Panthers pulled within 46-35 through three; however, ELB held a 26-10 scoring advantage over the final 8 minutes.

The home team shot 47.8 percent (33-of-69) from the field and commmitted just five turnovers while forcing 16. GPL shot 34.8 percent (16-of-46).

Grant DeRuyter added 17 points, Devin Sopko 11 and Marcus Harming 10.

Sopko came up with five of the Elks’ 15 steals, while Erickson dished out five assists.

For the Panthers (0-16), Joe Tisher had 16 points and eight boards.

ARLINGTON – The Chargers edged the Cardinals in nonconference action.

Hamlin led 18-14 after a quarter, 27-24 at halftime and 44-42 at the end of three.

Connor Bawdon scored a game-high 29 points on 9-of-24 shooting, hitting six treys. He also grabbed eight rebounds, came up with four steals and dished out three assists.

Devan Weelborg, who buried five 3s, added 16 points and Mitchell Noem contributed 10. Nash Grantham had eight boards and five dimes.

The Chargers shot just 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field, compared to 47.1 percent (24-of-51) for Arlington, but outscored the Cardinals 42-15 from 3-point range.

Arlington’s Devon Heuer posted a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds to go with three assists and three steals.

Trevor Larsen canned four 3s for 12 points and Trey Ramstad chipped in with 11 markers. Casey Stegeman had nine points.

Today, Arlington (11-2) takes on Florence/Henry in Henry and Hamlin (7-6) is host to Deubrook Area.

CHESTER – The Flyers led 21-18 after a quarter, 40-34 at halftime and 54-42 through three in the win over the Raiders.

Chris Mohr scored 22 points and Alex Tammen added 14 for Chester (5-11).

Mohr, Tammen and Stratton Eppard each dished out four assists. Eppard added four rebounds.

ORR’s Brand Trygstad finished with 22 points and Will Matson added nine to go with three assists. Taylor Hojer grabbed nine boards.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (2-13) plays host to Howard tonight in Rutland.

GIRLS

 Deubrook Area 55, Madison 45

WHITE – Shaylee DeBeer posted a double-double to lead the Dolphins past the Lady Bulldogs.

Deubrook was on top 16-8 after a quarter, 25-22 at halftime and 38-34 through three.

DeBeer scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She added two blocked shots, two assists and a steal.

Baylee Holmlund contributed 13 points. Ashley Vandermeer totaled nine points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a pair of blocks.

For Madison (3-12), Kendra Leighton scored 11 points, Morgan Anderson nine, and Grace Nelson and Zoey Gerry seven apiece.

Deubrook Area (14-1) heads to Hamlin tonight.

ELKTON – The Panthers outscored the Lady Elks 13-2 in the second quarter en route to the nonconference win.

ELB was up 11-8 after a period; however, GPL led 21-13 at halftime and 35-24 through three.

Erika Gosch led a balanced attack with 12 points and five rebounds for GPL (7-8). Camryn Buelow added nine points and four steals.

Bryn Holmen finished with seven points and eight boards. Lexi Scharlemann and Jocelyn Gosch both contributed six points, and Kristin Kluck had five to go with seven steals.

The Lady Elks’ Julia Drietz knocked down five 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 17 points.

Brooklyn Nielson added seven points, Jesse Busselman six and Hannah Krog four.

Nielson corralled seven rebounds and Krog came up with four steals. Busselman dished out four assists, while Hannah Krog and Jayla Prosch both blocked three shots.

Elkton-Lake Benton (1-16) is host to Garretson tonight.
