Ellie Abraham named Gatorade South Dakota Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year

Bobcat junior Ellie Abraham added another accolade to her already loaded resume as she was named Gatorade South Dakota Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year.

She won six of the seven in-state meets in which she competed in 2018.

Abraham placed second at the Class AA State Girls’ Cross Country Meet on Oct. 20 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls with a 5K time of 18 minutes, 18.27 seconds.

She was the defending champion in the event and also placed first in 2015. She took third in 2016 and fourth in 2014.

Abraham won the Eastern South Dakota Conference Cross Country Meet on Oct. 6 in Yankton with an 18:45.57 clocking.

It marked her third consecutive victory in the event. She was third in 2014 and fourth in 2015.

Abraham’s other victories in 2018 came at the John Collignon Invitational in Madison, the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, the Nike Heartland Preview in Sioux Falls, the Huron Invitational and the Brookings Triangular.

Abraham did not compete in the Watertown Invitational and instead traveled to Falcon Heights, Minn., where she finished 38th out of 455 runners in the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 29 at Les Bolstad Golf Course.

Abraham has also seen success on the track.

She is the two-time defending state champion in the 800-meter run. In the 1,600, she placed second in both 2018 and 2017, third in 2016 and eighth in 2015. She added a runner-up finish in the 3,200 in 2016.

Abraham was a part of victorious medley relay teams in 2018 and 2017.
