Ervin Tveito Brookings

Ervin Tveito, age 86, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Riverview Healthcare Community in Flandreau.  Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

Ervin was born May 10, 1932, to Sever and Signe (Benson) Tveito at Sheyenne, N.D.  He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith at Grandfield Lutheran Church in Sheyenne.  Ervin grew up and attended school through the 8th grade. 

Ervin married Sophie (Sue) Wobbema on September 19, 1954, and they had five children, Marvin, Linda, Cheryl, Doug, and Greg.  

The family moved to South Dakota and lived in the Brookings area for many years.  Ervin was a hard worker helping many farmers after his main job on the grounds crew at SDSU; where he worked for 27 ½ years.  He later married Helen Thielen on Dec. 29, 1984.  

They moved to Hayward, California and Ervin worked 12 ½ years at a high school as a janitor.  Helen passed away June 14, 2000.  Ervin later met Jane Parthans and they spent many years together until her passing on February 7, 2016.

Ervin moved back to Brookings to spend time around his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include his children; Marvin (Gayle) Tveito of Volga, Linda Hamer of Brookings, Cheryl (Cliff) Strom of Brookings, and Doug (Joan) Tveito of Volga; step-daughter, Pat (Steve) Carmen of Howard, SD; eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Tedrow of Northwood, ND; one sister-in-law, Joyce Tveito of Mandan, ND, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Greg; wife, Helen; two sons-in-law, Dale Klingbile and Bill Hamer; siblings, Ted, Art, Pete, Ben, Sam, Jens, Gerhard, and Thelma; six half-siblings, Ivan, Bert, Mike, Lewis, Sena, and Anna Tveito; nephews, Gerald Tveito and Dennis Tedrow; granddaughter, Ann (Strom) Wessel; great nephew, Gerald Schuchard; great-grandson, Chance; a step-daughter, Kelly Thielen Becker.
