BROOKINGS – The Helpline Center recently announced that Ellie Evanson has been named the December 2018 Volunteer of the Month, an area-wide award program sponsored by the Helpline Center.

There to honor and thank Evanson were Carla Steffensen, Lake Area Technical Institute adult education instructor; Brookings Mayor Keith Corbett and Sarah Lippert, volunteer connections coordinator at Helpline Center.

Evanson does clerical/office work for LATI Adult Education and Literacy Program. She tracks daily student hours and reports them at the end of the month, as well as keeping student work packets copied and compiles student intake packets.

Evanson has even helped a student or two out with math when the instructor was not available.

Evanson has been volunteering for LATI Adult Education and Literacy Program for about 20 years. She comes in Tuesday through Friday for about 2- 2 1/2 hours each time.
