CLEAR LAKE – Dennis Evenson has announced his candidacy for the South Dakota State Senate for District 4.

District 4 includes Deuel and Grant counties and rural Codington and Brookings counties.

Evenson, a Democrat, will face Republican incumbent John Wiik for the lone Senate seat for District 4.

Evenson said he received his certificate from the secretary of state last month advising that he is on the ballot for the Nov. 6 election.

A Clear Lake resident since 1975, Evenson said he is actively involved in the community in numerous roles. He is currently a partner in Gunderson Law Office.

He is asking voters for an opportunity to serve South Dakota in the Senate.

“I hope for the opportunity to use my wide range of experiences to serve South Dakota. In particular, I want to provide an effective voice from District 4 in the South Dakota Senate.”

Evenson grew up on a farm bordering on the east side of Sica Hollow. He is a graduate of Bossko Township No. 3, Sisseton High School, Northern State University and the University of South Dakota Law School. He married Jane Clausen from Burke in 1974, and they have two children, both attorneys.
