The fifth annual Prairie Striders Indoor 5K on the SDSU track at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex is set for Saturday, Jan. 19. The SDSU Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership’s Family Resource Network will host free “Understanding Me Up to Age 3” parenting classes from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the next two Saturdays, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26, at the Brookings Public Library, 515 Third St. While there are four sessions, participants are not required to attend all four. Brookings Area Singles will host a singles dance from 8 p.m.-12 a.m. Saturday, Jan.19, at the McKnight Community Center in White. Highway Call will provide live music. Door prizes will be awarded, and attendees are welcome to bring snacks to share. Admission is $9 for members and $10 for all others 21 years and older.
VFW Auxiliary invites the community to a brunch from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Brookings VFW post home, 520 Main Ave. The menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, toast, coffee and juice for $7. The Works includes the above breakfast with a separate plate of biscuits and gravy for $9. Children ages 3-7 eat for $4, and 2 and younger are free.
