Saturday, May 25

Brookings American Legion Post No. 74 will hold a pancake, sausage and eggs breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the post home, 1229 Western Ave. Proceeds will be used to support the Boys State, Youth Trooper Academy and American Legion Baseball programs. This will be the last pancake breakfast until this fall.

The Brookings Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 25, in the 300 block of Sixth Avenue, between the Brookings Public Library and the Brookings County Courthouse.

After weather canceled the event in April, The Carrot Seed Kitchen Co. is hosting a Downtown Clean-up on Saturday, May 25, in downtown Brookings. Stop at The Carrot Seed (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) or its booth at the Brookings Farmers Market (9 a.m.-noon) for plastic shopping bags and gloves. Then, venture out into the downtown area (or beyond) and pick up litter. Return to The Carrot Seed/Farmers Market to toss your collected trash and redeem your reward of a $5 gift card (while they last) or a sustainable prize (reusable straw, reusable produce bag, or dishware made from recycled milk jugs).

Local children’s book author Barb Bolton Walder will make a guest appearance to sign copies of her new book, “Let Your Dreams Take You Anywhere You Want To Explore,” from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Trendz, 225 Main Ave., Brookings.

Volga’s annual Memorial Day program starts at 9 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the Sioux Valley Performing Arts Center.

Brookings’ annual Memorial Day program, honoring all those who have died while serving in the United State Armed Forces, starts at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the Swiftel Center.

Elkton’s annual Memorial Day program starts at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the Elkton Community Center.

Aurora’s annual Memorial Day program starts at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the community hall and Little Hall. The event is sponsored by Pike-Huska Amercian Legion Post 230 and Auxiliary.

Sinai’s annual Memorial Day program starts at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Sinai Lutheran Church.

The Brookings Public Library’s next Adult Craft Class is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28. Participants will make paper embroidery. Registration is required; stop by the library or call 692-9407 to sign up.

Kas Williams, the new diversity officer at South Dakota State University, will speak at the next PFLAG meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Brookings Public Library. Come hear SDSU’s plans for diversity, enhancement and inclusion. PFLAG will also discuss plans for the upcoming Brookings Pride event. Brookings PFLAG provides education and support for Parents, Family, and Friends of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgenders in the Brookings Area.
