Brookings Area Community Band’s season-opening concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at the Pioneer Park Bandshell. “A World of Adventure” – The band pays tribute to the great American summer vacation with folk songs, medleys and other musical reminders of far-away places. In case of rain, concerts start at 7:45 p.m. and are moved indoors to the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. Each evening, a complimentary snack will be served by band volunteers. Brent Yantis from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Regional Application Center will bring the Earth as Art exhibit to the Brookings Public Library from June 15-July 22 and will give a talk on the out-of-this-world exhibit at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18. The Earth as Art gallery exhibit features remarkable images of the surface of the Earth that have been captured by remote sensing devices aboard Landsat and other satellites.
