The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum’s Summertime Food Trucks & Fun Series continues from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 977 11th St. This week the museum will host the Backyard BBQ food truck, which features a variety of smoked meats, side dishes and more. Live music will be provided by Kyle Knutson. Seating will be available, and the event is open to the public.

Bingo at the Brookings VFW, 520 Main Ave., is from 6:30-10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7. Cards are handed out at 6:30, and bingo starts at 7. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 692-6771.

Runners of all abilities are encouraged to enter the Prairie Striders’ annual Predictor Mile at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Brookings High School track at Medary Avenue and Fifth Street South. This free running event is open to every age and fitness level. Fast, slow or in between, the prize goes to the person who best predicts his or her time for a one-mile run on the track. No watches allowed. Kids of all ages are invited to participate in 400-meter and/or 800-meter predictor runs. There is no preregistration and free watermelon will be served after the race. Thursday, Aug. 8

The Helpline Center’s Brookings Brown Bag Lunch Series continues from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Research Park at SDSU, 2301 Research Park Way, Suite 146. The topic is volunteerism and the “why” in giving back. Area volunteers will be answering questions on why they volunteer and what makes an opportunity meaningful. Bring your questions and your lunch.

If you love to paint, join the painting group that meets from 12:30-4 p.m. every Thursday at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come work on individual projects and collaborate on art talk and ideas. No pre-registration is needed.

Downtown at Sundown is a free music series held from 5-9 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 22 in the 300 block of Fifth Street. It features free admission, free kids’ activities, cold drinks and local food.

The action continues Aug. 8 with local opener Victor Cajiao and headliner Soca Jukebox. This five-piece ensemble will transport you to the islands with a blend of reggae, calypso, country and rasta-goodness. Folks of all ages will enjoy the charisma, humor and shimmering steel pans that is Soca Jukebox.

A benefit bake sale for Brady Triebwasser will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Volga Christian School. Brady, 7 months old, is the son of Logan and Ashley Triebwasser. Proceeds will go toward Brady’s second heart surgery.

PAW Patrol Live! “The Great Pirate Adventure,” an action-packed, music-filled production, is coming to the Swiftel Center Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11. The heroic pups from the top-rated animated preschool series PAW Patrol embark on a pirate-themed adventure to uncover hidden treasure during the hit live stage show. A “Regenerating Our Rural Communities” field day in regenerative agriculture will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Blue Dasher Farm, 46958 188th St., Estelline, the wood house with a purple roof at the corner of exit 157 on Interstate 29. The event will feature several speakers, a roundtable discussion, and a free locally catered supper to follow for 200 attendees.

The American Legion family of Hoffman-Townsend Post 74 is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the forming of the national Legion organization. All area veterans, active service members, national guard and any and all military service related organizations are invited to come celebrate, starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the post home, 1229 Western Ave., Brookings. Festivities will include activities for children, entertainment and a picnic supper.

Sunday, Aug. 11

The Brookings County Museum in Volga’s City Park is open 1-4 p.m. daily, seven days a week.
