Impact Methodist Church will host its annual chicken supper from 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at 201 E. Pine St., Aurora. Free-will offerings will be accepted, and a country store will also be available.

SDSU Associate Professor Tammy Yonce will premiere two works during her faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in Founders Recital Hall in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on campus. There is no charge for admission, and the performance is open to the public.

Friday, Sept. 6

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory will be held Friday, Sept. 6, at 1155 North Campus Drive. The ribbon cutting and a short program will begin at 4:30 p.m. Guided public tours will immediately follow the program, with the last tour departing at 7:30 p.m.

A Bobcat Football Feed will be held from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at SDSU’s Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, preceding the 7 p.m. kickoff of the Brookings Bobcats’ next home game of the season against the Lennox Orioles. Nick’s hamburgers will be served while supplies last for a free-will donation. Bring a lawn chair as seating is limited and no alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Schadé Vineyard & Winery’s annual Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at 21095 463rd Ave., one mile west of Volga on Highway 14. The entrance fee is $5 per person, and children under 12 get in free. A photo ID must be presented for wine tasting and purchases. Activities throughout the day include mechanical grape harvester demonstrations at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.; lunch for purchase, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; live music from Kyle Knutson, noon-2 p.m.; grape stomping competition, 2-3 p.m.; grape stomping for everyone; complimentary wine and juice tasting; and a family activity area.

The Children’s Museum of South Dakota will host a free day of play from noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at 521 Fourth St. Come enjoy the museum at no charge as the musuem’s way of saying “thank you” for the community’s support for the past nine years.

A fundraiser in support of Dawn Lucas, who is fighting breast cancer, will start at noon Sunday, Sept. 8, at Sioux Valley High School. The event includes lunch and a silent auction at noon, a live auction at 3 p.m., plus basket raffles, 50/50 raffle, a bake sale and activities for kids. As part of the 2019 Common Read’s focus on the ABC’S of the conscientious use of technology with themes of access, behavior, connection and safety, Keith Bundy will present “Accessible in Technology” at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, in the Bailey Rotunda Hall, Room G. Bundy, who is blind, has worked for more than 35 years in a variety of professional positions and is currently a digital accessibility consultant and trainer with Siteimprove Inc. His presentation will define digital accessibility and explain why it is such an important topic in today’s world. In addition, several accessibility tips and tricks will be discussed.

The Brookings County American Legion will hold its September meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at the Bruce American Legion Post home. After the meeting, there will be a short program with lunch to follow. All Legionnaires in Brookings County are encouraged to attend.

Tuesday, Sept. 10

Disabled American Veterans will bring its Mobile Service Office program to the Brookings Hy-Vee from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 790 22nd Ave. S. These “offices-on-wheels” travel to communities across the country to help veterans and their families obtain the services and benefits they have earned and provide professional support throughout the claims and appeals process. Bring your identification, Social Security number, and any other pertinent documentation regarding your military service. DAV membership is not required to utilize these free services.
