First Bank & Trust invites the community to stop by its East Bank for free pumpkin pie and coffee during Pumpkin Pie Day, held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 2220 Sixth St.

Saturday, Nov. 30

The Brookings Arts Council’s Festival of Trees will be open all day Saturday, Nov. 30, starting at 11 a.m., with free hot chocolate available from 4:30-7 p.m. at 524 Fourth St. before the Festival of Lights parade.  Holiday hours for the Festival of Trees for the rest of the season is: Sundays, 1-4 p.m.; Mondays, closed; Tuesdays, 12-7 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursdays, noon-5 p.m.; Fridays, noon-7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Children’s Museum of South Dakota will host a Pre-Parade Play Party from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the museum, 521 Fourth St. The museum will be open for free play prior to the 2019 Brookings Festival of Lights parade, with special holiday activities taking place in the Art Studio. All are welcome.

The Carrot Seed Kitchen Co.’s fourth annual Holiday Cookie Contest will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at 310 Main Ave. All are invited to sample a variety of cookies and pick their favorite before stepping outside to enjoy the dazzling light displays.

The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce kicks off the holidays with its 24th annual Festival of Lights – Santa’s Ho Ho Hoedown on Saturday, Nov. 30. The annual Festival of Lights parade begins at 7 p.m. and will travel south on Main Avenue between Eighth Street and Third Street. Entries are open to the public with a float registration fee of $25. To register a business, club or organization, stop by the Chamber office at 415 Eight St. S. or visit https://www.brookingschamber.org/festival-of-lights.

Sunday, Dec. 1

Enjoy a wintery ride in a horse-drawn carriage through McCrory Gardens’ Arboretum with a cup of warm hot chocolate or coffee from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1. Santa will also be there! Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for SDSU students and youth (6-17 years) and free for kids 5 and younger. Last ride leaves the event center at 3:30 p.m. Time with Santa is free, as well as the work of a professional photographer on-site.

The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum will host a Holiday Ornament Make & Take event from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at 977 11th St., Brookings. Kids are welcome to stop by the museum and create a farm-themed ornament to take home for themselves or give as a gift. The event is free and open to the public.
