The Giving Closet fundraiser continues from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at 1303 Trail Ridge Road, Brookings. The event includes a garage sale, walking taco feed, and a quilt raffle. All are welcome.

The Brookings Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 29, in the 300 block of Sixth Avenue, between the Brookings Public Library and the Brookings County Courthouse.

The city of Flandreau will celebrate its Sesquicentennial July 2-7 with a free kick-off Tonic Sol-fa concert starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Flandreau Band Shell at the east end of Flandreau. There will be limited public parking, so attendees are encouraged to park at the Flandreau High School and ride the charter bus to and from the event. This will begin transporting people at 5 p.m. There will be food vendors at the event, and bleacher seating and park benches will be available. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Prairie Repertory Theatre presents “The Wizard of Oz” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices range from $12-19, and they can be purchased online at www.sdstate.tix.com.

Sunday, June 30

The Brookings County Museum in Volga’s City Park is open 1-4 p.m. daily, seven days a week.

Prairie Repertory Theatre presents “The Wizard of Oz” at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices range from $12-19, and they can be purchased online at www.sdstate.tix.com.

Zion Lutheran Church will host a pie/ice cream social and bake sale from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at Fifth and Sherwood Avenue in White. The menu includes barbecues, hot dogs, chips, homemade pie and SDSU ice cream, plus baked goods for sale in time for Fourth of July events. Free-will offerings will go to mission projects.

Brookings Area Community Band’s next concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the Pioneer Park Bandshell. “A Star-Spangled Spectacular” – A traditional patriotic spectacular including a generous portion of Sousa marches, free watermelon, and a tribute to veterans. In case of rain, concerts start at 7:45 p.m. and are moved indoors to the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.  Each evening, a complimentary snack will be served by band volunteers. For more information on how to join the band or about the series, call Kathy Larsen at 695-0397.

Monday, July 1

Bingo at the Brookings VFW, 520 Main Ave., is from 6:30-10 p.m. Monday, July 1. Cards are handed out at 6:30, and bingo starts at 7. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 692-6771.

Tuesday, July 2

The city of Flandreau will recognize its 150th anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Celebration July 2-7. Attendees may pick up registration packets at the Flandreau Elementary Commons from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2. Wednesday, July 3

First Bank & Trust will serve up free SDSU ice cream during Ice Cream Day, held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at its downtown bank, 520 Sixth St. All are welcome.

The city of Flandreau will recognize its 150th anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Celebration July 2-7. Self-guided tours of the school can be done from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. A Dusk-to-Dawn Dance, featuring Highway Call, is planned from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Japanese Gardens.

This week’s Feeding Brookings grocery distribution will be held from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2030 Third St., due to the Fourth of July holiday. To donate, volunteer or for more information, log onto www.feedingbrookings.org.

Thursday, July

Area residents  are invited to attend the 4th of July Patriotic Program at 10:30 at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai SD.  Jason and Malorie Hansen will give a presentation on their Mission Trip to Haiti.  A lunch will be provided by the Sinai Women of the ELCA after the program.  The cost of the lunch is a free will donation.

The city of Flandreau will recognize its 150th anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Celebration July 2-7. A Fourth of July Festival will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Moody County Museum, with a 1 p.m. alumni band concert. An inflatable entertainment park will be open from 2-8 p.m. at Royal River Casino. Fireworks sponsored by Royal River Casino start at dusk.

Brookings’ annual Fourth of July parade starts at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4. The parade starts at the corner of Third Street and Third Avenue, near the Brookings Police Department, and continues east on Third Street, north on Medary Avenue, west on Sixth Street and south on Main Avenue.

The annual Uncle Sam Jam starts at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at the Swiftel Center, 824 32nd Ave. The free community celebration includes balloon twisting, inflatable games, sandbox, crafts, kids’ train rides, petting zoo, face painting, Zoomobile, character meet-and-greet, concessions, beer garden, live music from The Rude Band starting at 7 p.m., and a fireworks grand finale outside at approximately 10:15 p.m.
