WATERTOWN – Feeding Brookings – Ascension Lutheran Church received a $2,000 grant for the food distribution program. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working Here Fund.

The Working Here Fund grant will be used to purchase fresh produce for weekly distribution to those in need. Items will include bananas, potatoes, carrots, apples, oranges and other produce based on availability.

“Our goal is to offer many nutritious food options to people at our weekly grocery distribution,” said Joanne Matthees, Feeding Brookings coordinator. “The number of families who come to Feeding Brookings continues to grow, and the anticipated result of this project is to assist in meeting the food needs of our guests.”

Funds from the Working Here Fund grant will be used to provide fresh produce for the food distribution  for approximately three to six months.

“At FCSAmerica, we value the opportunity to help alleviate hunger in rural communities,” said Jared Schnabel, regional vice president of retail operations at FCSAmerica’s Watertown office.

Feeding Brookings – Ascension Lutheran Church is one of 58 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the fourth quarter of 2019.  FCSAmerica awarded $94,165 during the latest grant cycle ending Dec. 31, 2019.
