Festival of Trees taking registrations

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Arts Council is gearing up for a wondrous world of enchantment during Festival of Trees 2018.

The much-anticipated festival displays creatively decorated holiday trees sponsored by businesses, schools and community organizations, all inspired by this year’s theme of “Dachshund through the Snow.”

The annual Festival of Trees is an important fundraiser for Brookings Arts Council, with proceeds benefiting the educational programs that serve the Brookings area every year.

For nearly three decades, the Festival of Trees has brought people together to marvel at the creative expressions of celebration for the holiday season from different points of view. As an added bonus, Festival of Trees also brings together school children, individuals, businesses and agencies to work together in decorating the trees before they are placed in the BAC for all to enjoy.

The deadline to sign up to participate in this year’s Festival of Trees is Nov. 2. Registration forms can be found online at www.brookingsartscouncil.org or can be completed in person at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St.

“This event has become so very popular that space and trees are reserved quickly, and we anticipate this excitement and participation to be the same this year,” BAC Executive Director Heather Kuhlman said. “To guarantee your tree, we encourage participants to register early.”

The Festival of Trees will be open to the public from Nov. 24 through Dec. 22. The 32nd annual holiday event is expected to feature more than 15 twinkling holiday trees, decked out in colorful ornaments representing all the wonderment, mystery and beauty that can be found around town during the Dachshund through the Snow event. The trees will be arranged throughout the BAC’s gallery.

For more information, contact the Brookings Arts Council at 692-4177 or log onto www.brookingsartscouncil.org.  The BAC is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. and is directly south of the Children’s Museum.
