Film deal moves up Odom concert

BROOKINGS – Leslie Odom Jr.’s Woodbine Productions concert in Brookings has been moved up to March 11 to accommodate a film deal the Tony Award winner recently inked.

Odom was scheduled to perform before a sold-out crowd in Brookings April 17. However, production of the film begins in April.

“This is definitely a good-news, bad-news situation,” said David Reynolds, director of the School of Performing Arts at South Dakota State University. “When we secure a contract with a star of the magnitude of Leslie Odom Jr., we take the risk that as his star continues to rise, we might have to make special accommodations. We are just fortunate that Mr. Odom is truly sorry for the inconvenience and wants to honor our contract for the concert and not cancel it.”

With nearly 1,000 tickets already sold for the April date, all ticket holders for the original date will have their tickets and reserved seats honored. No new ticket needs to be issued for the March 11 show. Ticket holders unable to adjust their schedule to attend the March 11 performance are asked to contact the SDSU School of Performing Arts at 688-5188 to discuss alternatives.

The new concert date, March 11, is a Sunday and will feature a 4 p.m. performance.

As the Woodbine Productions concert series is a benefit for SDSU students receiving music scholarships, no refunds or exchanges are traditionally honored. However, given the unusual nature of the date change, original ticket purchasers may be entitled to a refund or may apply the value of their ticket to a future performance.

Odom recently opened Super Bowl festivities by singing “God Bless America,” starred in the 2017 film “Murder on the Orient Express,” and won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the Broadway hit “Hamilton.”

For individuals who wish to attend the March 11 concert and do not yet have tickets, a waiting list will be started March 1 by calling the School of Performing Arts at 688-5188.
