BROOKINGS COUNTY — A fire spreading from a controlled burn was doused Sunday before it could cause any damage to a nearby residence.

The incident occurred southwest of Brookings at a residence on 465^th Avenue near 219^th Street, and was reported at 5:01 p.m., according to a Monday news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. 

Personnel from the Sinai and Volga fire departments were able to quickly extinguish the flames, and the owner estimated there was no permanent damage to any property, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote in the release.
