First Bank & Trust announces scholarship recipients

BROOKINGS – First Bank & Trust believes in investing in education. All levels of education are priceless, but First Bank & Trust understands that going to college requires a much higher investment. 

To assist with tuition, First Bank & Trust has chosen eight driven students to receive scholarships. Anna Ayres, Elise Becker, Joanna Boll, Ashley DeSmet, Macey Fields, Bridget Knudtson, William Reynolds and Grace Zerfas have been selected as the 2018 First Bank & Trust scholarship winners.  

Each will receive a $500 scholarship for college expenses. First Bank & Trust matches funds from the South Dakota Bankers Foundation to provide scholarships to these individuals for their postsecondary education.

“This year’s recipients have demonstrated excellence in both their academic and extracurricular activities,” said Kevin Tetzlaff, president and CEO of First Bank & Trust, Brookings. “It’s our pleasure to be able to reward their hard work and dedication.”

The recipients will start or continue their postsecondary education at the following institutes in the fall: Ayres will attend the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities majoring in English and German. Becker will be an interior design major at South Dakota State University. South Dakota State University is Boll’s new home this fall as she majors in music education. DeSmet has also chosen South Dakota State University and will major in pharmacy. University of Minnesota, Twin Cities will welcome Fields this fall as she majors in biology. 

Knudtson will start at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as she majors in interior design. Reynolds will be an aviation and music major at South Dakota State University. Zerfas will pursue her nursing major at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
