WATERTOWN – The Rangers moved back into first place in the SDAHA standings after an 8-3 win over the Lakers on Friday night in Watertown.
Brookings is 6-1-1-0 with 13 points – a point ahead of Sioux Falls, which is 6-1-0-0 with 12 points.

The Rangers needed just 15 seconds to get on the scoreboard as Trevor Kuechenmeister found the back of the net off a Cody Niklason setup.
Matt Chapin made it 2-0 with 7:31 left as Dominic Dobesh and Niklason assisted. The Lakers scored late in the frame to make it 2-1 after one.
Brookings scored back-to-back goals to open the second – Mason Gerstner from Brenden Way; and then, Dobesh netted the puck with the assist going to Niklason. After Watertown made it 4-2, Carter Shoup’s goal with 7:45 to play gave Brookings a 5-2 lead heading into the second intermission.
Niklason lit the lamp to open the third-period scoring 3 1/2 minutes in, and then, Watertown scored its final goal of the evening to get within 6-3.
Mason Gerstner scored twice – the first set up by Kurt Gutormson and Kuechenmeister – for the final 8-2 score.
The Rangers hit the road today for a 6:45 p.m. matchup with Aberdeen.
