Five teams advance in Class B Regions

Arlington, James Valley Christian, Wolsey-Wessington, Chester Area and Mitchell Christian all advanced in girls basketball region play Monday night. Chester Area and Mitchell Christian won first round games in Region 4B. Arlington, James Valley Christian and Wolsey-Wessington won first round games in Region 3B.

• Arlington 49, Iroquois/Doland 31

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back as they kept their season alive.

Arlington led 16-11 after one quarter and were up 31-18 at halftime. They then turned up the defense intensity in the second half, outscoring Iroquois/Doland 16-13.

The Cardinals were led by Hadley Carlson who had 15 points and seven rebounds. Makayla Nelson had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kasey Pistulka had 11 points and Cecili Carlson had seven.

Katie Dubro led Iroquois/Doland with 12 points and seven rebounds. Kaitlyn Maas had six points and five rebounds. Jorja Huls had four points and five rebounds.

Arlington shot 35.8% from the field and were 4-20 from three. They held Iroquois/Doland to 29.3% shooting from the field and held them to 3-14 from three. The Cardinals outrebounded Iroquois/Doland 36-32 and forced 15 turnovers.

The Cardinals will face Deubrook Area at 6 p.m. tonight in Castlewood.

• James Valley Christian 52, Lake Preston 50

HURON – The Lady Vikings had a nine-point lead at halftime, but trailed 40-39 heading to the fourth quarter. They outscored the Divers 13-10 in the final quarter to come away with a victory and advance.

JVC was led by Brenna Held who had a big night. She finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Karilyn Wieting had 13 points and six assists. Emily Hasart had eight points and Alanna Hood had four.

Ashlynn DeKnikker led LP with 21 points. Marissa Rober had eight points and Alice Warne had six. Madison Perkins finished with five points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Vikings will take on De Smet at 7:30 p.m. in De Smet tonight.

• Wolsey-Wessington 53, Wessington Spring 34

WOLSEY – The Lady Warbirds led from the get-go and rolled to a first round victory over the Lady Spartans.

WW was up 17-8 at the end of the first and then were up 24-20 at halftime. They turned it on the in second half outscoring WS 29-14.

The Lady Warbirds were led by Mya Boomsma who had 13 points. Chantel Haider and Lizzi Brandt each had 11 points. Brandt also grabbed four rebounds.

Grace Gran led the Lady Spartans with eight points. Piper Jones had six points and 11 rebounds. Avery Orth, Kirsca Mursen and Makayla Dornbusch each had five points.

Wolsey-Wessington plays Castlewood at 7:30 p.m. in Castlewood tonight.

 Chester Area 41, Elkton-Lake Benton 36

CHESTER – The Lady Elks season came to an end after a close loss to the Flyers Monday night.

The two teams were tied 7-7 after one quarter. ELB edged Chester Area 10-8 in the second quarter and took a lead into halftime. The Lady Elks held a three-point lead heading into the fourth, but the Flyers outscored them 17-9 in the final quarter.

The Flyers were led by Makenna Larson who had 17 points. Carly Becker had 12 points and eight rebounds. Julia Drietz led the Lady Elks with 15 points. Hannah Krog had nine points and eight rebounds.

The Flyers will face Ethan in Ethan tonight at 6:30 p.m. Mitchell Christian beat Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 51-36 in the other first round game in Region 4B. There were no further stats for that game. They will face Howard at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
