Flandreau beats Alexandria, 4-3, in 13 innings

SIOUX FALLS – Flandreau and Harrisburg won quarterfinal games on Friday in the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament held at Ronken Field.

The Cardinals needed four extra innings to down perennial power Alexandria, 4-3, while the Woodies bettered Madison, 6-4.

Flandreau and Harrisburg meet tonight in a 7:30 p.m. semifinal to see who goes to Sunday’s title game.

 Flandreau 4, Alexandria 3

The Cardinals played small ball to squeak across a run in the top of the 13th innings and then held the Aces scoreless in the bottom for the 4-3 win.

Jared Campbell reached on an error and advanced to second. Mitch Foster laid down the sacrifice bunt to move him to third before Keith Cutler hit a one-out single to plate Campbell with what proved to be the winning run.

Bret Severtson picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as he gave up three hits and struck out three Alexandria batters.

Zach Weinandt tossed the first 8 1/2 frames and allowed three runs – two earned – one 11 hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

 Harrisburg 6, Madison 4

Mark Abrahamson’s two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 4-4 tie as the Woodies rallied for a 6-4 quarterfinal win over Madison.

The Broncos jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings as Heith Williams had an RBI single before Nick Bird hit a two-run homer in the fourth.

But Harrisburg tied the game with a four-run fifth on four base hits, a base on balls and a Madison error.

Aaron LaBrie earned the win in six innings of shutout relief after giving up two hits and striking out nine.

Tanner Brown allowed four runs – three earned – on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in the first three innings.

Brock Selgestad suffered the loss after allowing six runs – two earned – on nine hits and four walks with 13 strikeouts in eight innings of work.

 Renner 10, Aberdeen 1

Kris Regas and Derek Quame combined to limit Aberdeen to one unearned run as the Monarchs cruised into Sunday’s title game with a 10-1 win over the Circus on Friday at Ronken Field.

The Monarchs banged out 16 hits as Eric DeJong hit two doubles to drive in a run and Grant Hieb finished with two singles and a double.

Nate Hewes tripled and David Borchardt drove in two runs with a single and home run.

Regas allowed one unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts in five innings while Quames gave up four hits and struck out three.

Lucas Heiser suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
