Flandreau girls end up eighth

SIOUX FALLS – Chamberlain senior Ella Byers placed first individually and Custer took down Black Hills Conference foe Hill City to claim the team championship at the Class A State Girls’ Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Yankton Trail Park.

The Wildcats totaled 50 team points, while the defending-champion Rangers ended up with 63. Chamberlain (68), St. Thomas More (89), Lennox (129) and Milbank (137) were third through sixth, respectively.

Flandreau finished eighth at 143.

Byers crossed in 18 minutes, 22.78 seconds. Lennox’s Ali Bainbridge was runner-up with an 18:27.41 clocking.

Elizabeth Hursey paced the Fliers with a time of 20:20.22, putting her in 27th.

Reese Olinger took 39th in 20:50.15. Madeline Hursey (21:00.47) was 47th and Hannah Parsley (21:39.14) 72nd to complete the team score.
