Cubs win amateur baseball game

BROOKINGS – The Cubs dropped the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 7-3 in an amateur baseball game Thursday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Both teams scored in the second inning as Manny Suarez got the Flying Squirrels on the board with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the frame, Jacolby Anderson had a one-out single and Kenneth Negron followed with a double. Mike Graybill plated Anderson with a groundout soon thereafter.

Sam McMacken blooped a two-run double between the third baseman and left fielder and then scored on Anderson’s two-bagger to make it 4-1 in the third.

Jeff Fish and Anderson tallied two-out RBI singles in the fourth to push the margin to 6-1.

Sioux Falls pulled within 6-3 in the sixth as Evan Kuehnert blasted a solo home run and the visitors added another run later in the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jared Tschetter tripled with one out and eventually scored on a wild pitch to provide for the final margin.

Anderson finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Carlos Rodriguez earned the pitching win after giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings.

Anderson pitched two innings of scoreless relief and Fish tossed a perfect ninth to seal the deal.

For the Flying Squirrels, Jaden Holzer and Lucas Wylie both had two hits. Kuehnert went 1-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
