Four facing kidnapping, assault charges

BROOKINGS – Four Sioux Falls residents, two men and two women, are facing felony charges alleging they assaulted and kidnapped a Brookings man last month.

Court documents identify the suspects as 38-year old Jimmy Reid, 45-year-old James Hof, 41-year-old Donielle Vincent and 28-year-old Jerilynn Brasel. Brookings County criminal complaints say they are all facing one charge each of second-degree kidnapping and aggravated assault, both Class 3 felonies, and Reid and Hof are also each facing one misdemeanor charge of simple assault.

A Brookings Police Department memorandum of arrest says police were conducting a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Medary Avenue South on July 5 and arrested a man there. As they were interviewing the 31-year-old Brookings man, he said he had been kidnapped at gunpoint from that residence at approximately 7 p.m. July 4.

The Brookings man alleged that two men entered his residence that night, assaulted him, and forced him out of the residence at gunpoint and into a vehicle where three other people were waiting, according to the memorandum.

The Brookings man told police the suspects were taking him to Estelline, but he was able to escape by rolling down a car window and jumping out the moving vehicle on Medary Avenue, according to the memorandum. Minor injuries were reported.

Brookings Police Lt. Marci Gebers said the four Sioux Falls residents were arrested this week, and more arrests may be coming.

She said all parties involved in the case were known to one another.
