BROOKINGS – A two-vehicle accident north of Brookings on Wednesday sent four people to the hospital, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident was reported at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at 470th Avenue and 201st Street, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
“It was found that 18-year-old Kyle Jensen (of Volga) was traveling south on 470th Avenue at the intersection of 201st Street in his 1999 Ford Ranger. He advised that he was unable to stop, as the roadway was slippery and went through the stop sign and collided with a 2011 GMC Yukon that was driven by 50-year-old Kalyn Gutormson (of Bruce) that was traveling west on 201st Street,” Sebring said.
Jensen and three passengers from his vehicle were transported to the Brookings hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. They included an Estelline man, 25; a Bruce man, 18; and a Volga girl, 13. Gutormson was not injured, Sebring said.
Both vehicles were deemed total losses, and Jensen was issued a citation for a stop sign violation, Sebring said.
Others responding to the scene were Bruce Fire Department and First Responders.
The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
