Freidel honored by Summit League

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State guard Noah Freidel claimed the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award, league officials announced Monday. The Jackrabbit sophomore scored 20-plus points in all three games at the Mammoth Sports Construction Crossover Classic at the Sanford Pentagon, leading SDSU to a 2-1 record.

Freidel opened the event with a 21-point outing to help the Jackrabbits defeat Nevada 102-75. He went 5-for-10 from beyond the arc and added four rebounds and two assists against the Wolf Pack.

In the Jacks’ second game vs. Washington, Freidel went for 20 points and a season-high five rebounds while making all six of his free throws. The 6-foot-4 guard closed the tournament by matching his season-high with 25 points, going 9-for-17 from the field, including a 4-for-8 effort from beyond the arc in the win over George Mason.

For the tournament, he averaged 22.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg while shooting 49 percent from the field and 46 percent from 3-point range.

It’s the first weekly Summit League honor for Freidel.

SDSU (6-2) hosts Prairie View A&M Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Frost Arena.
