SINAI — No injuries were reported in a Friday morning incident on U.S. Highway 81 near 214th Street northwest of Sinai involving a semi blocking the northbound lane.
Per information from Patrol Sgt. Manny Langstraat with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, the semi lost control on the ice and struck the guardrail on the east side of U.S. 81, blocking the northbound lane of traffic. The highway was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while a wrecker service removed the damaged semi from the guardrail.
The accident, which was reported at 5:37 a.m., also damaged about 200 feet of the guardrail. Langstraat wrote that deputies told him that the guardrail was the only thing that kept the semi from going onto the ice.
Deputies from the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident.
