Fritze, Timmer earn Summit honors

SDSU Swimming and Diving athletes Elisabeth Timmer and Spencer Fritze were recognized with Summit League weekly awards, announced by the league on Wednesday.

SIOUX FALLS – For the fourth time this season and seventh time in her career, South Dakota State’s Elisabeth Timmer has been honored as Summit League Women’s Swimmer of the Week.

Timmer’s latest award came after a pair of record-setting individual performances Nov. 18-20 at Augustana Invitational in Sioux Falls. She broke her own school record in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle on the opening day with a time of 23.08 seconds, then claimed the title with a time of 23.15 in the evening session. Timmer is undefeated in the 50 freestyle in seven starts this season.

She closed the meet by setting a new Jackrabbit standard in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 50.45 seconds. Timmer also placed fifth in the 100 butterfly in 56.86 seconds.

In between, Timmer swam on three winning relays: the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 800 freestyle relay. The 200 free relay established a new Jackrabbit record of 1 minute, 33.71 seconds.

Spencer Fritze

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State’s Spencer Fritze claimed his second consecutive Summit League Men’s Diver of the Week award as he closed out the first half of the season with two strong performances at the Augustana Invitational.

A junior from Park Rapids, Minnesota, Fritze won the 3-meter diving competition with a season-best score of 315.35 and placed third on the 1-meter board with a score of 281.60.

This week’s award marks the fourth of Fritze’s career.
