Gail E. Kabris, 73, of Brookings, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the United Living Community in Brookings, following a short, yet courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m.
Gail (Vork) Kabris was born in Perham, Minnesota, to Wilbur and Iris Vork on Feb. 21, 1948.
She lived with her family in Minnesota. Gail graduated from high school in 1966 and sought employment with an insurance firm in Minneapolis. She met Mike Kabris in 1967 and they married in December, 1967.
They lived in the Twin Cities and began a family in 1968. Gail was a stay-at-home mom until both their sons started school. She complete vo-tech school education concerning small business management and became the bookkeeper and clerk for Rush Metal Products. In 1981 that business merged with Medko, Inc. and moved to Brookings, SD.
Gail continued as the bookkeeper and clerk for that division of Medko, Inc. In 1990 Gail accepted a shipping clerk position with Coat to Coast Warehouse in Brookings and stayed in that role until the facility closed. She then accepted a clerical position with the Brookings Clinic. She stayed with clinic until she retired in 2014.
With great pride and pleasure she raised two sons, Curtis and Mitchell. Her greatest love went to her sons and the four grandchildren they brought into the world.
Her greatest hobby was animals. She had horses as a child and after getting married continued her hobby caring for horses. She had horses until 2012. She has always had dogs to take care of. Her care and concern for animals was second to none.
Gail was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Vork and her parents.
Gail is survived by her husband, Mike Kabris;two sons, Curt (Jodi) Kabris, Mitch Kabris; and four grandchildren, Sydney Kabris, Gradey Kabris, Colby Kabris and Abby Kabris.
