Gerald Raymond Moxon (Jerry) formerly of Brookings passed away at home on Jan. 1, 2023, in Livermore California.
Jerry was born July 24, 1939, in Madera, California to Milton and Edna (Countryman) Moxon. He grew up near Brookings attending Trail School 100 and Aggie school.
The middle of five boys, he always cherished the memories of growing up and his time with his brothers.
He married Janice Kracke in October of 1957. They had four children Julie, Jill, Jeff, and John and lived in Brookings until the early ’80s when they finished their home at Lake Poinsett and resided there until 2007 and moved to Livermore, California.
Jerry never met a stranger and was a great salesman.
He owned and operated the Conoco station on Sixth and Medary in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was employed at Oines and Einspahrs in Brookings, Julson Motors in Flandreau, and Watertown Ford-Chrysler in Watertown where he retired in October of 2007. He met many dear friends and loyal customers throughout this time and had a great appreciation for all
He was a member of the Jaycees and a proud member of the Brookings Elks Lodge No. 1490.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with friends and family, all of whom he had a nickname for. Pard, Zonk, and Nutsy to name a few and some that aren’t necessarily suitable for publication, but if you knew Jerry you know what they might be. During their years at the lake he and Janice loved working in the yard and had a beautiful flower and vegetable garden. They also shared many laughs with their neighbors the Calhoon’s.
After moving to California, Jerry and Janice maintained a much smaller garden and spoiled their “5th” child, a Shitzu named Molly. He enjoyed the Oakland A’s, the Warriors, and never missed a Raider’s game.
When Janice became ill, he took over all the household chores and became quite the cook.
He lovingly cared for all her needs until her death in 2009. He moved to a smaller apartment where he served as on-site property manager. He resided with his daughter Jill and her family since November of 2020 until his death.
We are comforted in knowing he is no longer in pain and had many of those dear to him there to greet him upon his arrival.
Jerry was preceded in death by Janice, his parents, and his brother Delwyn.
He is survived by his children, Julie (Tom) Witte of El Paso,TX, Jill (Dale) Bailey of Livermore, CA, Jeff (Darlene), and John of Boulder Creek, CA. Grandchildren: Jennie (Doug) Phillips, Britnai (Jimmy) Goritz, Mikaela Bailey and fiancé Ben Davidson, Matthew (Jerrica) Witte, Michael (Odessa) Witte, and Mark (Rocio) Witte. Great-Grandchildren: Lyndsie, Karlie, Addie, MacKenzie, and Oliver.
His brothers: Richard (Jean), David (Judy), Tom (Gloria), and sister-in-law Gloria Moxon as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family requests that any donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation. Condolences may be sent to: 4168 Torrey Pine Way, Livermore, California, 94551.
