GFP Commission to hold meeting in Pierre

PIERRE – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission will hold its monthly meeting at the Pierre Ramkota River Center on March 5-6.

Members of the public wishing to give oral testimony during the public hearing or open forum may do so remotely, via conference call at the Sioux Falls and Rapid City GFP Outdoor Campus facilities or the Watertown Regional GFP Office.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m., with the public hearing beginning at 2 p.m. The Commission will be proposing: river otter delisting, border waters flathead catfish regulations, archery deer season, landowner elk license applications, and youth waterfowl season.

The Commission will be finalizing: public waters, bighorn sheep hunting season, elk hunting seasons, waterfowl seasons, rules review, use of rifles for west river spring turkey hunting, flathead catfish trophy regulations, nonresident east river special deer license, and CWD hunting requirements and prohibited methods.

Action will also be taken on the Nest Predator Bounty Program Custer State Park private cabin transfer and the Spring Creek concessions.

A public petition for a youth pheasant season will be presented.

GFP staff and other attendees will also be presenting information items regarding: the Black Hills fisheries plan, captive cervid herds and CWD, CWD, border water state agency updates, refuge meeting update, elk aerial survey update, elk depredation update, creel survey enhancements, license sales, preliminary flooding outlook and revenue, camping and visitation reports.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting and make use of the open forum to share their thoughts on topics being heard and discussed by the GFP Commission.
