JV BOYS

The Rangers defeated Watertown 6-3 Saturday and Huron 4-0 Sunday in a pair of home games.

Brookings (12-3-1-1) sits in a tie for second with three regular-season games remaining. It hosts Yankton on Friday and then travels to Oahe on Saturday and Huron on Sunday.

 Brookings 6, Watertown 3

The Rangers, who outshot the Lakers 38-8, scored three goals in the second period and built a 6-1 lead early in the third.

Isaac Schulte finished with two goals and one assist.

Trevor Pederson contributed a goal and an assist.

Trenton Pederson, Jacob Drew and Brody Powers also lit the lamp. Noah Ronning, Talon Richter and Jackson Law added assists.

Kaden Gutormson stopped five shots.

• Brookings 4, Watertown 0

The Rangers used another three-goal second period to beat the All Stars.

Brookings held a 33-12 advantage in shots, as Carter Schulz posted the shutout in goal.

Trevor Pederson found the back of the net twice.

Nick Jonas and Schulte added goals.

Drew dished out a pair of helpers and Powers and Cayden Jacobsma both chipped in with one.

JV GIRLS

The Rangers beat Watertown 5-0 Friday and 2-1 Saturday at Larson Ice Center.

Brookings (7-7-0-1) enters this weekend’s state tournament as the No. 4 seed in Aberdeen.

 Brookings 5, Watertown 0

The Rangers got off to a fast start with a trio of goals in the first period.

Jadyn Runge stopped 14 shots to post the shutout between the pipes. Brookings racked up 47 shots on offense.

McKenna Geraets totaled two goals and a pair of assists.

Jadyn Kuehl also scored twice and Kiran Vugteveen added the other goal.

Kayla Shoup chipped in with two assists.

 Brookings 2, Watertown 1

Vugteveen scored the game-winning goal 8 seconds into the final period.

Alexis Schelske added a second-period tally to make it 1-0.

Runge made three saves. The Rangers totaled 43 shots.

BANTAM A

Brookings went 2-1 at home over the weekend, bouncing back from a 3-1 loss to Sioux Falls (1) on Friday with a 6-0 defeat of Watertown on Saturday and a 14-0 shellacking of Huron on Sunday.

The Rangers (10-5-0-1) finished fourth in the regular-season standings. The state tourney is this weekend in Oahe.

Jack Merritt scored on assists from Luke Honkomp and Zach Struck late in the game.

Egan Jensen stopped 13 shots.

 Brookings 6, Watertown 0

Owen Schneider (assist) and Merritt both lit the lamp twice.

Jacob Peterson and David Brink added goals.

Struck tallied two assists, with Luke Homkomp, Jacob Kahle and Gage Peterson adding one apiece.

Jensen stopped nine shots to post the shutout.

 Brookings 14, Huron 0

Peterson and Schneider had massive games to lead the way.

Peterson racked up six goals and Schneider had five, as both players also dished out a pair of assists.

Struck lit the lamp twice and Ren Jacobsen had a goal and an assist.

Merritt tallied five helpers, Gage Peterson three, Honkomp two and Kahle one.

Jensen logged four saves. Brookings totaled 53 shots.

BANTAM B

The Rangers defeated Watertown 4-2 Friday before falling 3-0 to Yankton at home Saturday and losing 8-2 at Brandon Valley on Sunday.

Brookings finished fourth in the regular-season standings at 9-7-1-1. The state tournament is this weekend at Larson Ice Center.

Jordan Raatz netted a pair of goals and Spencer Heflin and Carson Odde also scored.

Aidan Austreim notched an assist.

Nathan Brecher recorded 11 saves.

Brecher stopped 13 shots.

 Brandon Valley 8, Brookings 2

Raatz and Gavin Stewart scored.

Cooper Deatherage dished out two assists.

Brecher made 22 saves.

GIRLS 14U

Brookings finished fourth at the state tournament over the weekend in Sioux Center, beating Aberdeen 2-1 in the first round before falling 5-3 to Mitchell in the semifinals and 6-0 to Sioux Falls in the third-place game.

The Marlins dropped Huron 5-3 in the title game.

 Brookings 2, Aberdeen 1

Miyah Foerster scored the go-ahead goal with 3:07 remaining. Taryn Richter and Anna Rasmussen assisted.

Ava Kahle lit the lamp on assists from Rasmussen and Taylor Hokenson to make it 1-0 at the 4:20 mark of the second. The Cougars pulled even 23 seconds later.

Heidi Merriman made 17 saves to earn the win in goal.

 Mitchell 5, Brookings 3

The Marlins led 2-1 after a period and 4-3 at the end of two.

Richter lit the lamp twice.

Taylor Hokenson also scored.

Rasmussen and Kahle had assists.

Merriman stopped 45 shots.

 Sioux Falls 6, Brookings 0

The Flyers scored four first-period goals.

Merriman logged 29 saves.

PEEWEE A

Brookings ended up fourth at the state tourney in Yankton, beating the hosts 6-5 in overtime the first round but falling 8-1 to Rushmore in the semifinals and 3-2 to Sioux Falls (2) in the third-place matchup.

The Thunder defeated Sioux Falls (1) 9-5 in the final.

Riley Linstad scored the game-winner with 90 seconds remaining in the extra period.

Cody Jacobson lit the lamp with 4:17 remaining in regulation to cut the deficit to 5-4 and Jay Harris netted the equalizer with 43 seconds showing on the clock.

Yankton led 2-0 after a period.

Jackson Heller, Talon Hyde and Harris had second-period goals.

Nielson notched a pair of assists, with Linstad, Heller and Waylon Carroll each adding one.

Ryder Anderson made 19 saves.

 Rushmore 8, Brookings 1

Heflin lit the lamp on an assist from Linstad and Thor Kahler.

Anderson stopped 21 shots.

Linstad scored both goals.

Hyde had an assist

Anderson notched 21 saves.

Brookings took fourth in the state tournament in Watertown, opening with a 6-3 defeat of Brandon Valley before falling 5-2 to Rushmore in the semifinals and 7-2 to Sioux Falls (1) in the third-place game.

Sioux Falls (2), which beat SF (1) 5-1 in the semis, dropped the Thunder 2-1 in the championship matchup.

Andrew Hahn netted a hat trick for the Rangers, who used a four-goal second period to grab a 5-1 lead.

Micah Zweibahmer, Keygan Peterson and Tryston Hostler added goals.

Hostler, Jamison Olson and Camden Reicks notched assists.

Mathew Bothe recorded 18 saves.

Garrett VanderWal had both Rangers goals.

Hahn and Olson had assists.

The Rangers picked up a pair of victories.
