SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State’s Grace Glanzer and Cylie Halvorson were named Friday to the 2021 Softball Academic All-Summit League Team.
Both returning freshmen from Sioux Falls, Glanzer earned a spot on the 11-member squad with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as an early childhood education major, while Halvorson was selected with a 3.81 GPA as a business economics major. The team was selected on a vote by the league’s sports information directors and faculty athletics representatives. Nominees must be in at least their second year at their institution, carry a 3.3 GPA or higher and participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitions (20 percent for pitchers).
Glanzer was honored as Summit League Freshman of the Year in 2021, compiling a 19-5 pitching record with one save in helping lead the Jackrabbits to Summit League regular season and tournament titles for the first time. She recorded a 1.78 earned run average and pitched a team-best 169 innings.
The 2021 Summit League Player of the Year, Halvorson set Jackrabbit single-season records with 19 home runs and 127 total bases, and also led the team with 59 runs batted in. She did not commit an error in nearly 300 defensive chances at first base.
South Dakota State made its first NCAA postseason appearance at the Division I level during the 2021 season, finishing the year with a 43-8 overall record.
