Gloris Dehnert - Florence

Gloris O. Dehnert,  96, of Florence and formerly of Watertown and Ipswich, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown after suffering a stroke. 

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings with visitations two hours prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Ipswich City Cemetery following the funeral lunch. Eidsness Funeral Home of Brookings is handling the arrangements.  

  Gloris was born on Oct. 4, 1921, to France Odean and Goldie (Anderson) Samuelson in Ipswich. She grew up in Ipswich, and graduated from Ipswich High School in 1939. Gloris married Maynard K. Dehnert on June 2, 1941, and they moved to New Effington, where Maynard taught math and band. Maynard served as a lieutenant in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, allowing Gloris to visit many places including Georgia, West Virginia, Virginia and Texas. 

After the war, the couple moved back to Ipswich to raise their family. In 1970, Gloris returned to school and graduated from Presentation College with a degree in nursing. She then went to work for Dakota Midland Hospital in Aberdeen and later for the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Ipswich as the first director of nursing. 

Gloris was a member of First Baptist Church of Ipswich, Extension Club, 20th Century Club, Eastern Star, and PEO. She was an avid golfer and continued to golf even into her 90s. Gloris also enjoyed clogging in Arizona, playing pool, and playing cards. 

Gloris and Maynard spent many years wintering in Arizona. Maynard died March 31, 1996. Gloris continued to make Ipswich and Arizona her homes until 2007. At that time, she moved to Watertown to be near to her daughter. Gloris continued to winter in Arizona until 2014. She then moved into Country View Assisted Living in Florence, where she resided until the time of her death.   

 Survivors include her son, Kenneth (Lynn) Dehnert of Burnsville, Minnesota; her daughter, Kathryn (Michael) Steinhoff of Watertown; daughter-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” Dehnert of Spearfish; six grandchildren including Mitch (Ashley) Steinhoff of Brookings; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; son, M. Keith Dehnert; two sisters, Frances Halla and Marion Foreman; and one brother, Lester Samuelson.
