Golden Eagles power past Bobcats, 51-25

ABERDEEN – The host Golden Eagles took advantage of five forfeits to top the Bobcats 51-25 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference wrestling dual Thursday night.

Brookings was open at 106, 126, 132, 145 and 152 pounds.

Connor Klinkhammer picked up a 6-2 decision over Ethan Allen at 113. Jaxon Bowes followed with a win by fall in 5:04 against Brock Martin in the 120-pound bout.

At 138, Sam Lehman’s 15-2 major decision versus Garrett Mitzel pulled the Bobcats within 18-13. However, two more forfeits made it 30-13.

Aberdeen Central’s Collin Haar was a 5-2 victor over Logan Bowes at 160.

Brookings’ Jacob Schoon (170) won by forfeit.

The Golden Eagles sealed the deal with back-to-back pins as Brock Baker (182) dropped Ethan Tesch in 1:21 and Noah Fullmer (195) put Aaron Smidt on his back in 34 seconds.

The Bobcats’ Gus Miller pinned Calob Jones in 3:33 at 220.

Aberdeen Central’s Kaden Johnson closed out the dual by pinning Tucker Christie in 3:00 in the 285-pound matchup.

The Yankton Invitational is Saturday at 9 a.m.
