CASTLEWOOD – Sioux Valley senior Carly Granum broke the state record for 3-pointers in a season, but Castlewood overcame an early deficit to beat the Cossacks 65-57 in a Lake Central Conference girls’ basketball game Tuesday evening.

Granum breaks 3-point record

CASTLEWOOD – Sioux Valley senior Carly Granum broke the state record for 3-pointers in a season, but Castlewood overcame an early deficit to beat the Cossacks 65-57 in a Lake Central Conference girls’ basketball game Tuesday evening.

Granum hit seven 3-pointers to push her season total to 111, breaking the state record of 105 set by Mitchell Christian’s Jill Young in 2006.

Granum has 326 career treys – one shy of second place in state history (Centerville’s Kieran O’Malley had 327).

The Cossacks led 22-15 after a quarter. Castlewood moved ahead 36-34 at halftime and was up 52-47 heading to the fourth.

Regan Benike and Darah DeKam both posted a double-double for the Warriors.

Benike had 20 points and 11 rebounds. She ended up 6-of-9 from the floor and 8-of-14 at the free-throw line. Benike added two assists and a pair of steals.

DeKam contributed 19 points and 13 boards to go with five dimes. She went 6-of-10 from the field and 7-for-7 at the line.

Alayna Benike finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Granum finished with a  game-high 23 points.

Miakken Vincent chipped in with 17 points and grabbed 12 boards to complete the double-double. Lynsey Stevens had 14 points and five boards.

Both teams close the regular season later this week as Castlewood (16-2, 5-1) plays host to Estelline on Thursday and Sioux Valley (12-7, 3-3) welcomes Garretson on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. game.

 Lake Preston 57, Elkton-Lake Benton 44

ELKTON – Ashlyn DeKnikker posted a big double-double to lead the Divers over the Lady Elks in a Dakota Valley Conference showdown.

Lake Preston led 8-5 after a quarter, 22-18 at halftime and 42-35 through three.

DeKnikker scored 22 of her game-high 26 points in the second half. She added 16 rebounds and six steals.

Meriah Flegel scored 11 points, Olivia Christensen nine, Lexie Larsen six and Lindsay Hillestad five.

ELB’s Aubrey Wirth, who grabbed seven rebounds, and Callie Otkin both had nine points. Karlie Christensen chipped in with eight points and Samantha Schindler six to go with seven boards. Hannah Krog snagged 11 rebounds.

ELB (12-7, 5-4) closes out the regular season playing host to Waubay/Summit on Thursday.

Lake Preston (12-8, 5-4) begins play in the Region 3B Tournament either Monday or Tuesday.

 Flandreau 60, Baltic 26

FLANDREAU – Kathy Parsley and Mara Lunday led a balanced attack as the Fliers rolled past the Lady Bulldogs in a Big East Conference matchup.

Parsley totaled nine points, six rebounds and six assists. Lunday had nine points and seven dimes.

Tishara Hardy also scored nine points. Hannah Parsley totaled eight points, five assists, three boards and three steals. Brooke Iott scored eight points and corralled four rebounds.

The Fliers led 19-7 after a quarter, 35-13 at halftime and 55-22 through three.

Kayla Kappler finished with eight points for Baltic.

Flandreau (13-5, 6-1) heads to Howard on Thursday and Baltic (5-12, 1-6) is host to Dell Rapids St. Mary on Friday.

 Colman-Egan 55, Dell Rapids St. Mary 44

COLMAN – The Hawks beat the Cardinals in the DVC matchup to finish the regular season with a 7-13 (4-5) record.

Colman-Egan was up 14-13 after a quarter, DRSM led 26-24 at halftime, and the Hawks retook the lead at 38-36 through three before pulling away in the final period.

Mackenzie Hemmer posted a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with three steals and a pair of assists.

Haleigh Nicol and Braiden Westley both added 12 points. Olivia Baumberger contributed eight points and 12 boards.

The Cardinals’ Ella Heinitz had 16 points and six boards. Maddie Schwebach added 10 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Cook chipped in with eight points and eight boards.

DRSM (8-11, 2-6) plays host to Hendricks, Minn., Thursday in its regular-season finale.

The Region 4B Tournament kicks off Monday.

 De Smet 53, Estelline 22

DE SMET – The Lady Bulldogs opened up a 20-6 advantage after a quarter and led 37-12 at halftime en route to the DVC victory.

Rynn Osthus scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Gianna Janssen added 14 points.

De Smet shot 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field and limited Estelline to 29 percent (9-of-31).

The Lady Redmen got six points and four rebounds from Marissa Golas. Kylie Beare and Tasha Vohlken added four markers apiece.

Both teams conclude the regular season Thursday with Estelline (5-14, 2-6) heading to Castlewood and De Smet (14-5, 8-1) traveling to Deuel.

 Chester Area 48, Arlington 37

ARLINGTON – Dakota Alfson notched a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Flyers (9-11) past the Cardinals (7-13) in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Jadon Wages added 12 points and seven rebounds. Makenna Larson had eight points and seven boards, while Hanna Reiff totaled eight points and six rebounds.

Arlington’s Jeryn Christensen ended up with 14 points. Hadley Carlson dropped in nine points off the bench and Madysn Gilbertson chipped in with seven. Jayna Haufschild grabbed nine rebounds.

The Region 3B and 4B Tournaments get underway Monday.

 Deubrook Area 85, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 16

OLDHAM – The Dolphins improved to 14-6 (7-2 DVC), while the Raiders dropped to 1-17 (0-8).

Both teams wrap up the regular season Friday with Deubrook heading to Florence/Henry and ORR playing host to Flandreau Indian School in Rutland.
