Gray fall twice to Harrisburg

BROOKINGS – After falling 16-8 in the first game of a doubleheader with Harrisburg, the Bombers Gray rallied but came up short, 11-9, in Game 2 at Mickelson Field on Monday.

The Bombers travel to Watertown on Wednesday for a doubleheader that starts at noon.

• Harrisburg 16, Brookings 8

The visitors used 10 hits, seven walks and six Gray errors to cruise to a win in the opening game.

Gray overcame a 4-1 deficit with two runs in the third; three in the fourth and then a single run in the fifth to lead 7-4, but Harrisburg scored 12 in the sixth escape with the win.

Braden Clifford the offense with three hits, including a triple, to go along with an RBI while Logan Stotz finished with two runs batted in on a single and two walks. Magnus Nelson also drove in two with a single and a walk.

Clifford suffered the loss in relief of Garrett Bothe. Bothe surrendered four runs – one earned – on four hits and a walk, with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Clifford relieved in the sixth and walked three straight batters – all which scored.

 Gavin Fixsen mopped up and allowed nine runs – one earned – on six hits and three walks with one K.

The visitors built a 9-1 lead after an innings and a half before Gray came back to challenge with a five-run second.

Harrisburg tacked on two more in the third and the Bombers’ comeback fell short as they managed just four runs to the final margin as the game ended early by time limit.

Brookings had three hits reports – singles by Fixsen and Nelson – as Logan Stotz hit a double through the first two innings. Quinn Miller was credited with an RBI.
