South Dakota State wrestler Seth Gross is slated to compete today at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas.
Gross will be competing as a member of the Jackrabbit Wrestling Club and is the No. 4 seed in the 61-kilogram weight class, which features 27 wrestlers. Gross is slated to take on Shelton Mack of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club in the opening round of the Senior Men's Freestyle competition. The U.S. Open serves as a qualifying tournament for the World Team Trials, which will be held in June.
A native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Gross completed his sophomore season at SDSU this spring with a runner-up finish in the 133-poiund weight class at the 2017 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. He compiled a 34-2 overall record and was undefeated in dual competition at 17-0.
Gross also became the first Jackrabbit to win an individual Big 12 Conference title and was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championship.
Last summer, Gross competed in the juniors division and earned the right to compete internationally in the Grand Prix of Spain and the 2016 United World Wrestling Junior World Championships in Macon, France, in the 60-kilogram weight class.
Wrestling season tickets on sale Monday
Season tickets for the upcoming 2017-18 wrestling season at South Dakota State will go on sale Monday.
Reserved seats are $75 per person, with a general admission season ticket available for $60. Season tickets will include admission to all Jackrabbit home duals, the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open and the South Dakota Showcase. A full schedule will be announced at a later date.
The 2017-18 season will the first in which reserved seating in the main stands will be available for home wrestling events. Tickets will be allocated in July based on priority points through membership in the Jackrabbit Club.

The Jackrabbit wrestling team is coming off its most successful season at the Division I level during the 2016-17 campaign. SDSU, which was nationally ranked for nearly the entire season, posted a 14-5 dual record, finished third at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship and had two wrestlers earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships en route to a 16th-place team finish.
