Guard rail damaged in hit-and-run

BROOKINGS – A guard rail sustained thousands of dollars in damage after a hit-and-run, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The damage was reported at 11 a.m. Monday and occurred on Interstate 29 at the northbound Elkton exit, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“It was found that the unknown suspect vehicle was traveling north and went off the roadway to the west and struck the guard rail, causing extensive damage to the guard rail. The unknown suspect vehicle left the scene, and there is no description of the vehicle,” Sebring said.

“The guard rail is owned by the S.D. DOT, and the damage is estimated at $3,500,” Sebring said.
