Habitat receives matching Fishback challenge

BROOKINGS – Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity has received a challenge to assist in its 2020 endowment drive.

Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback will match up to $7,500 in gifts to Habitat’s endowment received Oct.1-Dec. 31, 2020.

“It is wonderful to have such strong support in our community,” Habitat’s Executive Director Dan McColley said. “The Fishbacks, First Bank & Trust, and its Community Development Corporation have all been strong supporters of Habitat for over two decades. This builds on our relationship to provide affordable housing in our community.”

Habitat – locally celebrating 25 years of building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter – takes such donations and turns them into homes in the area. However, this is the first “donation challenge” the organization has received.

Habitat’s endowment is held by the South Dakota Community Foundation. Gifts should be made to SDCF in Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity’s name. These gifts will be matched via this challenge.

“Housing is a basic need in our community,” McColley said. “We ask the public to contribute any amount to ensure we utilize all of the challenge funds and further assist in meeting this need.”
