Hansen, Olson win at SDSU Classic at Edgebrook

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State men’s and women’s cross country team’s each had the individual champion at the SDSU Classic on Friday at Edgebrook Golf Course. Ben Olson took home the men’s title, and Leah Hansen won the women’s race.

The SDSU men won the team title and the Jackrabbit women came in second.

Men

SDSU won the team title with a perfect 15-point total. North Dakota came in second 65 points.

The Jacks had the top-seven finishers. Olson came in first with a time of 24 minutes and 59.74 seconds. Daniel Burkhalter and Thomas Brueckman came in second (25:12.73) and third (25:14.60), respectively. 

Gabe Peters came in fourth (25:19.92) and Joseph Minor finished in fifth (25:30.39). Cody Larson and Michael Schwinghamer came in sixth (25:31.39) and seventh (25:32.81), respectively.

Women

Hansen won the individual race with a time of 17:56.91, which was 18 seconds better than her previous personal best.

Cailee Peterson was the next Jackrabbit to finish and she finished in third (18:13.92). Jessica Cristoffer came in sixth (18:27.91) and Bailey Dergan finished (19:08.66). Bridget Henne wrapped things up for the Jacks with a 18th place finish (19:19.18).

SDSU had 43 points as a team. UND won the team event with 39 points.

Up next, the SDSU men and women will travel to Falcon Heights, Minn., for the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24. The race is hosted by the University of Minnesota.
