Employees given chance to go to other locations

BROOKINGS — Hardee’s has closed its Brookings restaurant at 2324 Sixth St.

General Manager Benjamin Newling, in a phone call with the Brookings Register on Thursday, said employees have been offered the opportunity to take jobs at other Hardee’s locations.

Newling was unable to offer further information, and a call to Northland Restaurant Group in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the franchisee for the Brookings location, went to voicemail.

A sign on the drive thru window at the Brookings Hardee’s said the location is closed.

According to a story in the Mitchell Daily Republic, the Hardee’s location in Mitchell also closed Thursday.

The fast-food restaurant chain is known for, among other things, its chicken, burgers and breakfast biscuits. Its history in Brookings stretches back to the early 1980s, when Hardee’s was in the University Mall, which is now the University Marketplace.
