Harrisburg sweeps Bandits in regional


HARRISBURG – The Tigers hit seven home runs and allowed just four hits, topping the Bandits twice to win a best-of-three Legion baseball region series.

Post 45 logged victories of 12-2 in six innings Friday and 8-0 on Saturday to advance to the state tourney.

Brookings finished the year with a 15-21 record.

Saturday

 Harrisburg 8, Brookings 0

Chase Mason and Ethyn Rollinger combined for a 13-strikeout no-hitter and the Tigers blasted a trio of homers to clinch the series.

Mason struck out 10 and walked five over 5 2/3 innings.

Rollinger struck out three and walked one the last 1 1/3.

Mason, Rollinger and Ben Loos all went deep.

Loos’ three-run homer made the score 6-0 in the fifth frame.

The Bandits’ Sam Hardin walked twice.

Mason Bebensee gave up seven runs on eight hits with a BB and a K in five innings.

Friday

 Brookings 12, Harrisburg 2 (6 inn.)

Tyman Long went deep three times and drove in four runs.

Chase Mason homered and tripled while also tallying four RBIs.

Will Simmons struck out 13 over 5 2/3 innings. He gave up two runs – both unearned – on four hits and two walks.

Brookings’ Jake Ammann was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Max Kjelden also plated a run, as the Bandits led 2-0 after half an inning.

Ammann gave up five runs – four earned – on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk in two innings while taking the loss.
