Hawks crush Cardinals to win DVC title outright

COLMAN – Colman-Egan beat Arlington/Lake Preston 52-6 Friday night to clinch the Dakota Valley Conference football title outright.

Bodee Groos ran for 129 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 95 yards with a TD for the Hawks.

Keith Crisp picked up 77 yards on the ground and scored three times.

The Badgers’ Devon Heuer scored his 25th rushing touchdown of the season on a 10-yard run to stake the visitors to an early 6-0 lead.

Groos hit Dalton Voelker for a 51-yard TD toss later in the first to tie things up.

Crisp had scoring scampers of 6 and 3 yards in the second quarter, as Groos found Chase Hemmer for the two-point conversion both times to make it 22-6 at halftime.

Groos sprinted 42 yards to paydirt and added the two-pointer in the third.

Touchdown runs of 7 yards by Kade Groos (Trey McKnight two-pointer) and 6 yards by Crisp (Crisp two-pointer) pushed the margin to 46-6 heading to the fourth.

Eli Bowen’s 6-yard TD run closed out the scoring.

Cade Groos rushed for 44 yards and also had a 44-yard reception.

Voelker paced the Colman-Egan defense with nine tackles, including a sack. Chandler Gullickson made six tackles, and Crisp and Hemmer five apiece. Bodee Gross had three stops and also intercepted a pass.

For ALP, Heuer threw for 80 yards and ran for 44.

Will Parry had a 29-yard catch and Byron Bumann added a pair of receptions covering 24 yards. Gavin Holland picked up 15 yards on the ground.

Arlington/Lake Preston takes a 6-2 record into the Class 9AA Playoffs.

Colman-Egan improved to 8-0. The Hawks, who are now in Class 9B, won the 9A title a year ago.

Postseason play kicks off Thursday.

• Deubrook Area 55, Estelline 0

WHITE – Eight different Dolphins found the end zone as Deubrook Area (3-5) closed out the regular season with a victory.

The Dolphins finished with 272 rushing yards on 39 attempts. Marty Tirrel led the way with 80 yards.

Karter Kruit (65 rushing yards), Trace Vierhuf (30), Clayton Koppatschek (20), Kobey Landmark (16), Nick Olson (nine) and Tyler Berndt (five) each found the end zone on the ground.

Davin Quail added 21 yards.

Cody Bauman was 3-of-4 for 60 yards with TD tosses of 25 yards to Colby Trooien and 20 yards to Brock Sheffield. The quarterback added 25 rushing yards, while Denton Schwartz hauled in a 15-yard catch.

Schwartz recorded three of the team’s eight sacks on defense as he and Alex Molengraaf recorded five tackles apiece. Bauman and Olson both picked off a pass. Jack Bandemer had two sacks.

Estelline finished the year with an 0-8 mark.

• Castlewood 49, Elkton-Lake Benton 6

ELKTON – Noah Wiersma had touchdown runs of 3, 35 and 14 yards, and also added a 73-yard scoring pass to Kaden Eng as the Warriors defeated the Elks.

Eng’s big TD toss came on the first play of the game as Castlewood opened up a 33-0 lead after 12 minutes.

Brandon Benike went 6-of-10 for 71 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Johnson. He also found the end zone on a 23-yard run.

Castlewood was up 43-0 at halftime and 49-0 through three.

Justin Heyn paced the defense with eight tackles.

ELB’s Devin Sopko ran nine times for 46 yards, including an 18-yard TD rush in the fourth.

Taryn Krog had six tackles.

Castlewood (7-1, Class 9B) and Elkton-Lake Benton (4-4, Class 9AA) both qualified for the playoffs, which begin Thursday.

• Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 33, Dell Rapids St. Mary 8

RUTLAND – Jamus Brown completed 22-of-34 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 83 rushing yards and a score to help lead the Raiders past DRSM.

Hunter Breske hauled in nine passes for 103 yards and two scores while Jeremiah Hoekman caught eight for 22 yards and a TD.

Casey Renaas added 20 yards on four touches with a score as ORR improved to 3-5 on the season.

Breske finished with seven solo and three assisted tackles; deflected two passes; and came up with an interception as Renaas had three solo and 12 assists. Steven Chapin added three solo and eight assists while Carter Wicks contributed six solo stops.

• Dell Rapids 54, Flandreau 15

DELL RAPIDS – Seth Spielman ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Quarriers.

Eddie Price and Nick Boever both added 55 yards and a score. Price threw an 80-yard TD pass to Alex Kringen. Carson Rentz was 4-of-6 for 80 yards with a 23-yard scoring toss to Jeffrey Schuch. Zach Schreier returned a fumble 5 yards to paydirt.

Dell Rapids was up 13-0 after a quarter, when Flandreau’s Bastian Erickson caught a 37-yard pass from Michael Witte and Nate Kneebone added the two-point conversion run to pull the Fliers within 13-8 early in the second.

However, the home team moved ahead 35-8 at halftime and led 48-8 through three.

Witte ran for 107 yards, including a 30-yard TD in the fourth.

Dell Rapids out-gained Flandreau 565-208 in total yards of offense, including a 405-156 advantage on the ground.

Kneebone had eight tackles to pace the Fliers, who finished with an 0-8 record.

Dell Rapids (7-1) wraps up the regular season at Madison on Thursday.
